Case Study - IT Audit

The Client

Our client is a large conferencing facility in a prime location. With over 20 conferencing suites spread across 7 floors, the facility can run over 400 corporate events per year, with an average of 500 delegates per event. Wireless internet, digital signage and high-definition AV feature throughout.
With the company concerned about antiquated equipment, ITD were engaged to audit the IT infrastructure and personnel so that the function could be better understood and improved on.

The Challenge

Our client’s IT infrastructure had become old and had not been properly documented for some time. After an catastrophic server failure caused the organisation to lose email for several days, ITD were engaged to audit the infrastructure, network and systems and identify priority areas for improvement.

Our Approach

• Working closely with our client, we ascertained their business needs to better understand how IT should be supporting them. We also reviewed documents and policies relevant to the IT function.

• We prepared an inventory of all the IT applications and systems Through this we gained a better idea of what was out of date and needed replacing or upgrading, and what would be necessary to support the client’s future growth.

• We reviewed the business critical communications infrastructure.

• We looked at all software and licensing to make sure it was in date and fit for purpose.

• The client had a small in-house IT team and we reviewed the management, organisation and skill set of this function.

• We examined and tested the business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

• We conducted a gap analysis against best-practice and industry standards.

The Results

We presented the findings to our client and developed a detailed plan of changes and improvements in order of priority. We recommended various measures for service improvement including a restructured support mechanism. Our recommendations were designed to offer increased commercial opportunities without increasing costs.

We documented the infrastructure, communications, applications and systems. This document was presented in plain English, to benefit non-technical staff.

“ITD created a comprehensive plan for improving our IT management and systems.  It put us back in control and allowed our organisation to grow.”
