27th January 2004
News release from IT department (UK) Ltd
Wow
is the worst yet ? we have never seen a virus generat this level of
mail before. Thank you Sophos for stopping this one getting through.
Unless your lucky
you will probably be experiencing vast numbers of virus warnings from your
system. If you have a gateway scanner the dangerous virus will have been removed
and you will only be left with the warning message. The viruses will probably be
coming from people you have never heard of before, with titles like, Test, Hi,
Hello.
If you do not have a
scanner on your Firewall/Gateway do not open any emails with attachments from
unexpected sources. This is just a normal
precaution. Assuming your antivirus system is auto updating and the
provider has issued an antiviral file; if you accidentally do open an infected
email it will be stopped. Not all providers have issued an update yet. Sophos
systems have been updated, and our Firewalls with gateway scanning have also
automatically updated, assuming you subscribe to the service.
A further note ZIP files can slip through with a virus
as the scanner cannot read the contents, so again do not open unknown zip files.

full details.
