New software makes current Website technology obsolete.
Up until now most businesses use their Website an Electronic Brochure, once up and running it's mostly forgotten. Yet this medium has to potential to be the most useful form of communication available to you.
Think of how useful the BBC's or met office web site is, and how often they get repeat visitors. The problem until now is simply cost. The software alone to run this type of site can cost in the order of £100k and cost over to over a million to set up.
But not any more!
Imagine this. You or your staff being able to update or add a page to your website as easily as writing a Word document. A person with the Editor function viewing and approving the amendments before they go live (know as staging). News items, features, links to other sites, new feeds, client document access, staff procedures/Intranet, password access to some or all areas. And, software designed to handle 100,000+ hits a day. The benefits could be enormous, communicating to all your clients, or potential clients directly. Maybe providing them useful information, changes in your company, document access, etc. The list is endless.
After month of hunting and development we have have tailored a system called Midguard (Content Management System, CMS) into a generic Interactive Web site for small business. We were so impressed we converted our own site to the system.
As its all based on Linux the costs are unbelievable low. Depending on the level of customization you require and your choses of hardware etc. you could be looking at less than £3000. We can achieve this by cloning an existing Web server and tailoring it for your specific use. We also recommend some user training, again tailored to your needs. You may also need ongoing support as modifying the 'Look and Feel' requires more skill than publishing the content.
As for the location of your server, for Intranet use anywhere on your network will do, for access to the Internet we can simply create a path via your Firewall. This is the cheapest option and fine for sites with low levels of Internet traffic. For high traffic levels these are several options which we can advise on.
