Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Recently, the Gartner Group developed a detailed report defining the real costs associated with a PC on a network. Their findings showed that the total cost of a PC over a five year period could actually be up to 30 times the original purchase price! One can think of this "Total Cost of Ownership" (TCO) as the sum of all the "little things" that go into acquiring, installing, and managing computers, networks, and applications. The Gartner Group calculated the actual cost of a PC on a network to be between �5600 and �7500 per user per year.

So, an important question becomes: "How does one reduce the Total Cost of Ownership?" The answer is actually fairly simple — you focus the majority of your attention on where most of your money is spent. According to Gartner Group findings, this is:
